Fluffy

If you are just starting to spin and want to be inspired, take a look over at purlwise. I found myself over there last night, and after reading the post there on spinning soft yarns, it finally clicked. That is something I have been trying to do for a while now, and I just kept ending up with thin, tightly spun yarns. They were nice for knitting lace, but I just could not figure out how to get those fluffy yarns that I see everywhere else. After reading the post at purlwise last night, I spun this nice, thick, soft, 14 WPI yarn. It was a brown roving, so I then promptly dyed it green, using some left over dyestock solution. There was only 57 yards of this, so of course, I just love it. I wish I had enough for a sweater or at least a hat for one of the kids. But no, only 57 yards and I took no notes, just sloshed the dyestock in to the dye pot, so I won't be able to replicate the color. Hopefully I will be able to duplicate the spinning though, this will knit up so much more quickly into nice hats and gloves for the kids this winter.

I loved the yarn so much that I had to knit up a swatch. No real scale here for you to tell, but it is 18 stitches/4 inches. You can see here the dye didn't take up incredibly evenly. I like the way it looks though. That slight variagation gives it more interest to me than something that is uniformly the same color. One of my spinning goals is to make yarns for myself that are beautiful colors blended together from fibers of many different colors, instead of just dyeing them the one color I want. Well, that is all for today. I changed the blog again last night, the second one was just too plain. Maybe this third one will be better. I don't know if I will keep it forever, but I think my blog needed a change of scenery the same way I do! I''m forever rearranging the furniture too, it drives my husband nuts.
