While we were out Saturday, we went into Walmart as his work had gotten the kids gift cards from there for Christmas. I wandered through the craft section for grins, they hardly ever have anything that interests me since my hobbies have taken a woolen turn, but all ( I mean all 5 or 6) of my yarn needles had dissapeared. I had to have more, so I wandered back there. Above the area that has the yarn needles hanging on a hook were a bunch of locker hooks.

Now I have been looking for lockerhooking supplies for a while. I tried to find them at hobby lobby, and had to buy a kit to get one. So I was a little irritated to see 8 or 9 hooks, hanging by themselves in walmart, for $4 a piece. So I pick up the yarn needles, pick up the locker hook, and almost, almost, leave the the craft department. But I decide to walk over and see if they are starting to carry the senseo yarn. I really like it for socks, and I am not planning on starting a pair, but it would be nice to see if they have any of the yarn. No yarn. But there, above the crochet hooks and aluminum knitting needles is the lockerhooking fabric...and locker hooking instruction books! Using that horrible eyelash yarn and fabric, but instruction books! I could convert the instructions to roving if I wanted to. So I picked up a package of the backing material, it is 3 feet by 5 feet, I think, big enough for a good sized rug.

When I got home I used the stuff from the kit I had bought previously to do this. There are things I don't like about it, there has got to be a better way to weave in the ends of the locker thread on the back (You really don't want to see the back, LOL) and I have no idea how to finish the edges. Mine frayed on one side and now I don't know what I am going to do about it. I like the resulting fabric, though. The dark brown is some icelandic wool roving, and the 4 squares are the natural dyed wool from the natural dyeing workshop our guild held last spring. I am going to have to look into this more and see if I can find some pointers on finishing.
