She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands. --Proverbs 31:13

I finished the shawl that I made for my twin sister for our birthday. This is it. It was the Catherina shawl fby Myrna Stahman from The Best of Knitters: Shawls and Scarves. I am so tickled with it. I had knit it in green, but when I finished it and looked at it, one of the skeins (which my MIL brought back from China, the labels were in Chinese) was obviously of a different dye lot. There was a huge green stripe right through the middle of the shawl. So I dyed the whole thing black, and this is what I got. It is a little shorter than the shawl in the book, I had to shorten it one pattern repeat because I was running out of yarn. I got Myrna Stahman's book Shawls and Scarves last week, and I really like all the shawls in the book. This Faroese style shawl really appeals to me, and I know I will make many more.

Thanks Lissa. It looks horrible, all bunched up and ugly, before you "dress" it. But blocking transforms it. When I took it off the pins, it made me laught out loud it was so light and airy.

Beautiful! I just bought the Stahman book and have a cone of cashmere that I want to knit into a Faroese shawl. The only question is, which one??? Is yours knit with lace weight? What needle size did you use?

Bogie, I used fingering weight yarn, I think in lace weight it would be so much more delicate and open. I used size 3 needles on the fingering weight, and was really thrilled with how the fabric turned out. As to which one you should knit, good luck choosing one, LOL. They are all so beautiful. I am getting ready to spin the yarn for my next one, my own hand dyed, hand spun wool. I am going to make the garter stitch shawl for everyday use, just to hang on the back of the computer chair for when I get cold. Unless the yarn turns out great, in which case we will have to see...

Thanks for the reply. I decided to use US4's and started an Anne swatch but decided it was too lacey. So, I switched to an Alka shawl and love it. I'm about 8" into it.
