She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands. --Proverbs 31:13

The dyes I ordered arrived in the mail yesterday. I really like Cushings acid dyes, and the service was super fast. The three rovings on the left in this picture are Merino, using the new colors. The eight single color rovings are 4 ounces each of the new colros. Left to right, silver gray, turqousie, nugget gold, Egyptian red, bronze, violet, terracotta and magenta. I have two ounces of each to spin straight, and 2 ounces to blend with other colors for optic blends.

This is the roving that I started on last night as soon as it dried. It is pretty plain, just bands of the silver grey and the bronze. Subtle, but beautiful. This is merino and very soft. There was only 2 ounces of it, so it will have to be combined with something for a project. It was just an experiment to see about the color combination.

This is a close-up of a smidgin of yarn. I dyed this tiny scrap of merino I found floating in the water with the turqoise and terra cotta dyes. I absolutely loved the way it turned out, but I will have to wait until I get more merino and for another dyed day to try and replicate it. I didn't really try for evenness here, there was such a small amount of the fiber. I really like the looks of it though. I am still plugging away on the cabled sweater, and got the buttons. I am hoping to get a couple of inches a day done on the back, and then the arms and fronts should go quicker, I hope. I love knitting it, but I have to keep taking breaks so I don't fall asleep. It isn't boring, it's just that knitting is so relaxing. When I get sleepy, I spin for a little while, I have been doing a lot of samples for a project. More about that in the next post.  Posted by Picasa

Looks like you have plenty of spinning to keep you awake for a while. Pretty colors.
