Progress

I started spinning the purple (in my mind it is "amythest") roving yesterday. It is always a surprise how much yarn you can spin when you are going for chunky after you have been spinning for fine awhile. I finished 232 yards yesterday. It felt like a huge acomplishment after it took me forever to spin the 200 and some odd amount of yards of the thin dark purple yarn I posted a picture of yesterday. I probably have about the same amount of the amythest roving left to spin, and then the accent color before I begin to knit the project. It is going to be a fun project, I think, and I will post the details of that when I start knitting it.

I also recieved my shipment of books from a big name book seller. It will be the last time I order books from them, I think. I ordered them with my Christmas money on Dec. 26. They didn't ship the books I guess, until the determined they weren't going to get the third book back in stock. The thing is, that I haven't been able to find that book anywhere in stock, except from used book sellers. So why does this book seller have it listed as shipping in 1-2 weeks? It just seems silly to me.

Then on Sunday I recieved an email saying that they might have the book on the 14th of February. At which point I canceled that part of my order and started looking for another copy. A search for 220 Aran Stitches-A Harmony Guide Vol. 5has led me to believe that I am not going to be able to find it except used. Instead, I ordered a used copy of The Harmony Guide to Aran and Fair Isle Knitting, from a used book seller. I can't find anything to tell me if those two books have the same information in them or not. I think as a general rule I am just going to start ordering used books. As long as they are in fairly decent shape, they will serve my purpose, and it will certainly make my wallet happier. Anyway, with the two books that arrived today, I can begin planning my Fair Isle socks so I know how many colors of yarn I am going to need and how much.

I started to watch the elimination rounds of American Idol last night, but some of the contestants were being treated so badly, I had to turn away. I know sometimes it must be torture for those judges, but I don't see any sense in being mean to people who have put themselves out there. Of course, if they were postive and kind to everyone who auditioned, the ratings would probably tank. Every time the Powell guy said something, I found myself singing Steve Green's song for children, " Encourage one another, and build each other up". That is what I sing at my kids when they are being nasty to one another. So I decided I am not going to watch it at all this year. I usually only watch it for a few weeks anyway, and I wasn't enjoying it. I would rather watch TCM. I have been catching up on my cultural references, haha.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
--Phillipians 4:8-9

I don't like watching the American Idol program - just the auditions. I do hate to see their feelings hurt by Simon but I can't make myself stop watching it (except when there's a crying baby interrupting).

I don't watch American Idol either, though I do sometimes catch the tryouts.

I LOVE that purple yarn you are doing!!!!! Can't wait to see what you make with it. I'm sure it will look beautiful no matter what you make.

I too think of that scripture when I'm watching TV. I wish there were more positive shows to watch. I've been trying out the old movies too and old sit-coms and sometimes I just turn the TV off.
